Анотація
Розглянуто основні етапи наукової діяльності М. І. Ланге, досліджено його внесок у розробку історії права Київської Русі, судочинства та доказів і доказування за Руською Правдою.
Lange M. I. is an outstanding lawyer-scientist and legal practitioner. In the list of famous persons of history he referred to the category of «Great People of Russia». However, M. I. Lange was born, studied and worked a long time on the territory of Ukraine, as it rightfully he can be attributed to the prominent names of Ukraine. Unfortunately, the figure of M. I. Lange and his contribution to the historical and legal science are underestimated in the national historiography. There is no scientific article, wherever revealed his scientific contributions. Publications about him confined Brief Biography in various encyclopedias. Therefore, the principal novelty of the article is to analyze the scientific views of M. I. Lange on the history of law. M. I. Lange was born in 1820 in Chernihiv. In 1841 he graduated from Law Faculty of Kiev University. He worked in Kyiv, Kharkiv, St. Petersburg. The spectrum of research of M. I. Lange was quite broad. He studied the problems of the theory and history of law, published articles in legal journals. He also studied the issue of court practice, reform of the judiciary and the legal procedure. But its main contribution to the science of law history associated with the study of the Rusʼka Pravda (the Russian Truth), Old Russian criminal law and legal procedure. In 1860 in St. Petersburg he published a fundamental work «Study about the Criminal Law of the Russkaya Pravda». In this work he first gave a detailed description of the participants in the legal process for the Rusʼka Pravda, the main stages of this process and procedural evidence; he also highlighted peculiarities of the legal procedure of that time. M. I. Lange paid great attention to the terminological text analysis of the Rusʼka Pravda. Then it was very actually, as there was no established interpretation of the terms and various scholars have expressed their opinion on each term. The article can be used in the study of legal history of Ukraine. Scientific heritage of M. I. Lange requires further study.
