Анотація
Висвітлено основні причини виникнення відмінностей між двома варіантами англійської мови. Розглянуто граматичні особливості американського варіанта англійської мови, що починався як «спрощена мова», в основі якої лежала розмовна мова британської буржуазії та торговців,
а потім зазнав певних змін. Розкрито сутність цих граматичних відмінностей та вироблено можливі способи оптимального пред’явлення інформації про ці відмінності під час вивчення
англійської мови.
Today, English is becoming a truly global language. The most common varieties of English are the British and American versions of the English language, however, the trend of the present is the process of increasing the influence of the American version of the English language on the British one, which is due to the development of the Internet and the increasing influence of the media in general, as well as the deepening of cultural expansion. The formation and further development of American English were due to the historical situation in which the language of migrants from Britain appeared on another continent and later was exposed to the impact of other languages. It should be noted that the purposeful policy of the new state – the United States of America, in every possible way contributed to the development of an independent language, its transformation from “simplified” British English into independent American English. Although for many years there have been processes of mutual influence and interpenetration of the British and American variants of the English language, today these variants of one language have a number of differences related to the cultural and historical background of the two countries. The study of these differences is considered quite interesting and deserves independent scientific research, which actualizes the goal of this article - to single out the main reasons for the differences between the two variants of the English language, to consider in particular the grammatical features of the American version of the English language, to reveal the essence of these grammatical differences and develop possible ways to optimally present information about these differences when learning English. Scientific researches show that there is a certain difference between the two varieties of English, not only in the area of vocabulary and phonetics, there are differences in almost all aspects of grammar, although the differences are gradual and not categorical. The article focuses on the main grammatical differences between American and British English, namely the subject-verb agreement, the use of the definite article, verb forms used in the past tense, modal verbs, the subjunctive mood, the use of prepositions, adverbs and adjectives.
Отражены основные причины возникновения различий между двумя вариантами английского языка. Рассмотрены грамматические особенности американского варианта английского языка, начинавшегося как «упрощенный язык», в основе которого лежал разговорный язык британской буржуазии и торговцев, а затем претерпел определенные изменения. Раскрыта сущность этих грамматических отличий и выработаны возможные способы оптимального предоставления информации об этих отличиях при изучении английского языка.
